Traditional Auction
Elders specialist wool staff conduct weekly auctions in the three major selling centres of Brooklyn, Victoria, Spearwood, Western Australia and Yennora, New South Wales.
Elders has the industry’s leading auctioneers and sales teams, trained specifically to maximise prices for your wool. Our direct link to the buyers in the rooms through our own buying team allows us to have market information for our clients at any time – even during a sale. This also allows for the most up to date and relevant information to be passed to our growers so that they can make the best decisions around the right time to sell.
Elders provides one of the world’s largest catalogues attracting extensive interest and competition from all buyers with guaranteed quick and secure payment of sale proceeds.
Elders Global Wool Auction
In 2006, Elders recognized the need to connect the demand from our international clients with the supply from our Australian growers. As such, the Global Auction was developed and launched as an exclusive auction service provided by Elders to connect this strong demand from domestic buyers and international mills / merchants with our client’s wool.
Conducted monthly via the internet, the Global Auction provides buyers from anywhere in the world equitable access to Australian wool in an efficient and effective method, creating greater worldwide exposure for Australian woolgrowers product.
In 2008, Elders again responded to the needs of buyers to be able to purchase specialist types including organic and ceased/ non-mulesed. Our feature sales are now held regularly within the Global Auction platform.
While the auction is running, online sellers and any interested parties can log on and observe the sale.

Auction Forward
The Elders Auction Forward service is one of the most successful product offerings as it provides security of price with growers able to lock in a price up to two years in advance with no funding required. The price set in the auction forward is based on the best available price from all forward markets at that time.
Growers sell their wool through the traditional auction system which allows transparency in price at settlement with full competition.
Elders have the simplest and most flexible product on the market for growers to manage their price risk management, allowing the constant rising input costs to be managed in an effective way.

Mill Direct
When you market your wool through an Elders Mill Direct, Elders are able to offer your wool directly to our close network of international processors at your own set price. It provides the opportunity to receive valuable feedback on your product and build strong relationships for future orders.
Through BWK Elders, we have long-standing relationships with multiple international mills that provide woolgrowers a marketing option that few other agents can offer.
Over the past 150 years, the Elders wool service has grown and expanded beyond the traditional agent model. It now encompasses extensive investments in wool broking services and international processing, as well as our indent buying business where we buy Australian wool on behalf of our international clients. These services deliver new and innovative marketing options to our clients.
Our extensive range of products, services, facilities and alliances help growers achieve maximum returns for their wool.
How Elders Mill Directs work
- Select a container of your wool
- Set the price and sale location
- Elders then offers your wool to mills throughout the world
- Once a buyer is found, you sell your wool directly to the mill
- All payments are promptly secured by Elders
Forward Mill Directs
A Forward Mill Direct is similar to a standard Mill Direct but allows us to price containers 2-3 months before the wool is delivered to our store based on historical and estimated test results.
Therefore we can provide growers a price on farm and work on the best selling option for the clip.
topPhysical Forwards
Physical forwards allows us to price the wool whilst still on the sheep’s back to provide price risk management. BWK Elders will price wool based on historical and estimated tests results in an aim to allow growers to manage their price risks.
One off Open Mill Orders
Open Mill Orders are when we receive an order, for example 20 tonne of un-mulsed wool, to go through to a specific brand. We put together a contract with a set price, specifications and delivery date and our network is able to assist in securing/ identifying suitable wools from our clients for this contract.
Recently we have sold wool top to Scholler and the yarn will be delivered to a German sock manufacturer together with certificates from growers for unmulesed greasy wool.
topCrossbred Forward Contracts
Elders are currently running forward crossbred contracts by utilising third party exporters and processors to provide a price for the wool on a prompt or forward basis.
Crossbred wool producers who require a price forward on farm, either skirted or unskirted, should contact their local District Wool Manager.

Organic & EU Eco feature sales
In response to the growing consumer demand for organic and EU Eco wool, Elders have developed the Organic and EU Eco Wool special feature sales. Attracting world wide competition, new markets for Organic and EU Eco wool, and by offering commercial quantities of these wool types at auction, these sales have attracted substantial premiums above the market when compared with corresponding non-organic wool types.
What is Organic wool?
- Wool produced on a property which has achieved organic accreditation from a registered authority (3 year certification process).
- Because of the nature of organic production, organic wools have no chemical residues.
- Registered organic certification bodies in Australia include: NASAA and Australian Certified Organic (ACO).
What is EU Eco wool?
- Unlike organic wool, certification is not required. Minimum, rather than nil chemical residues can be present in the wool.
- Sheep can be treated strategically with certain pesticides and still achieve the residue limits.
- Wool growers sign a declaration at time of delivery based on their knowledge of chemical application to the wool.
- Wool samples are residue tested independently through the CSIRO before they are labelled as such to ensure EU Eco residue requirements are met.
- Data suggests that 40-45% of Australia’s wool clip is produced within EU Eco label criteria.
